Numskull’s official Space Invaders ¼ scale replicas have landed!

This year marks 45 years since Taito’s iconic game invaded the arcades and Numskull Designs are proud to commemorate the occasion with the release of two quarter-scale cabinets – Space Invaders and Space Invaders Part II. Pre-orders opened last year and have now started shipping to customers in the UK and Europe with U.S. orders following in the next 2-3 weeks.

Numskull worked closely with Taito to accurately replicate the original 1978 and 1979 arcade cabinets; Space Invaders famously used a Pepper’s Ghost effect to make the invaders ‘float’ in front of a moon, and painstaking steps were taken to replicate this in ¼ scale, ensuring these fully playable, highly detailed Quarter Arcades remained identical to the originals in every aspect. The result is that fans now have the most authentic Space Invaders experience possible outside of playing on a full-size arcade cabinet!

Since its release in 1978, Space Invaders has gone on to become a global pop-culture phenomenon. Issuing in the golden era of arcade gaming, it is often credited for revolutionising the video game industry as well as influencing many famous game designers including Shigeru Miyamoto and Hideo Kojima. 

To commemorate the 45th anniversary of the franchise, legendary Space Invaders creator Tomohiro Nishikado signed 78 Space Invaders Quarter Arcades cabinets (to commemorate the 1978 release date), and 79 Space Invaders Part II cabinets (to commemorate the 1979 release date). A limited number of the Signed Collector’s Edition of Space Invaders and Signed Collector’s Edition of Space Invaders Part II are still available.
